PARADISE ISLAND RESORT & SPA
The Paradise Island Resort & Spa is a 20-minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. In general the island is quite large according to Maldives standards so it may be described as quite a big and busy resort. Yet you may still find some privacy especially on the east side of the island which is far from the main facilities area. The service of the resort is highly estimated and rated as exceptional. The resort is well maintained and always clean and the staff is extremely helpful. The check in process is fast and all transfers to the airport are well planned and managed. Everything is set up that you could enjoy your holiday to the fullest being inspired by those amazing views from the overwater villas or enjoying the beach from a stunning beach bungalow. It should be mentioned that every fee has an additional 8% service charge and 13% GST tax for a total of approximately 21% charge on top of amounts billed. However the entire resort is absolutely beautiful and worth every penny spent. The resort is a very good choice if you are travelling with kids, as it is probably the one of the very few that have a children’s playground, children’s swimming pool and it also provides a lot of attractions both for children and adults as well. It is suitable for families and couples without children too yet you will not get to feel quite stranded on an island if that’s the experience you’re looking for. So note that and choose wisely.

Also there’s a hint if you take half board meal plan you may dine in any restaurant you like and there’s a great range of those which specify in Indian, Russian, Chinese cuisine and other. The restaurants cater for their guests to satisfy tourists of all nations. They provide a fair number of vegetarian options as well and can customize your orders a bit. The kitchen staff are very friendly and are ready to share all the precise information about certain foods. Although take care choosing the food because Maldivian cuisine might appear quite spicy. If you want to learn something new foodwise then try the pumpkin custard, which is heavenly, or Maldivian fish curry is highly recommended too.
Bageecha restaurant is the main one. It caters to many dietary requirements such as vegetarian and jain meals. A full continental European or English breakfast is available at the breakfast buffet, and a wide variety of Continental, Asian and Maldivian cuisine is served at lunch and dinner.
Italian Ristorante al Tramonto is situated over the house reef overlooking the ocean with a sunset view. This restaurant serves local and international cuisine. Pasta and pizzas are excellent here. Also you can enjoy stunning views from the restaurant and there’s always a possibility to see a lot of sharks and big fishes
The Lagoon Restaurant
The Lagoon restaurant is a quiet dining experience situated in a great set up over the water as well. The food at the lagoon restaurant is great and the atmosphere is very relaxing as you can eat overlooking the sea. Normally this overwater restaurant is reserved for Water Villa and Heaven Villa guests but still they have a la carte option there for all the guests as well.
Japanese restaurant Fukuya Teppanyaki has some good varieties of noodles and fried rice. This restaurant as you may guess by the name specializes in teppanyaki, a traditional Japanese cooking method. Nevertheless you still may order original sushi here.
Seafood restaurant Farumathi specializes in traditional for this area Maldivian cuisine. It serves a variety of seafood including the Maldivian lobster. The restaurant is built on the edge of the reef facing the sunrise and the breathtaking Indian Ocean.
All in all there are 2 bars on the island. Hulhangu Bar is open 24-hour and offers a multiple variety of liquors and cocktails are of a very good standard. Every night at the Hulhangu Bar they offer events and DJ’s music usually based on a main theme of something like Disco or R&B.
Athiri bar is located at the east end of the island which is quieter and more secluded, however both bars are fantastic. They are never noisy and overcrowded, offer a great service and the a wide range of drinks.
Dhaavani Coffee Shop is more of a café style which offers beverages and a la carte meals and is open 24-hour
Indulge at the amazing spa of the resort. Araamu in Maldivian language literally means “Relax”. Araamu Spa is tucked away in a secluded corner of the island and is very special in its outstanding architecture and atmosphere. Any treatment here will make you feel you have just stepped out of a heavenly sanctuary. Couples treatment which includes a romantic massage together is highly ranked among the guests. Each of the private treatment rooms feature an outdoor courtyard, shower and flower bath making it the perfect choice. A variety of treatment therapies are provided, including aromatherapy, Indian ayurvedic, Thai massages and hydrotherapy. You may enjoy body scrubs and facials, manicure and pedicure as well. The spa is equipped with a sauna and a spa tub.
Beach and Reef
The island features soft sandy white beach with turquoise clear waters of the ocean. The location of Superior Beach Bungalows makes it perfect to enjoy its white sand beach and crystal clear waters of the shallow lagoon. Especially it’s comfortable for couples with children. The beach is outstanding especially on the west (close to the reception area) side of the island. It should be mentioned that the east side is quite mediocre, the beach might be gravelly and grey in some areas. Although the resort is quite large, the beach is large too and never crowded at all. In fact, you wonder where all the other guests are during the day.
East side is the best side to enjoy your privacy. It’s quiet with the sea view, however west side is better for swimming. So if your main goal is to enjoy snorkeling avoid the rooms at the far end of the island because the current there is rather strong and it’s is not really allowed to do snorkeling in some places there too. It is also worth bringing your own snorkeling gear otherwise it will incur some extra charges. The best snorkeling spots that you may reach from the island are near the restaurant al Tramonto and from the opposite side of the island in between Beach Bungalows 286-287. Snorkeling along the reef in the resort area you may see a lot of fishes, small reef sharks and stingrays. Baby sharks, small fishes, turtles and other sea life are often spotted from shore of the resort as well.
Things To Do
The resort has its own PADI accredited Diving center called Delphis Diving Center. Diving courses and lessons are available although they might seem quite overpriced in comparison to other places. In this way taking two dives and more should end up more cost effective than a single dive. The quality of the actual center is very nice. They have good clean compressors, nice shower/toilet facility and a fine dive boat.
A great variety of all kinds of water activities are available on the island. The resort offer both motorized and non-motorized water sports such as canoeing, jet skiing, waterskiing, parasailing, etc. The water sports activities are well-managed and are a lot of fun, though some of the activities such as parasailing may appear rather overpriced. However there’s no way you will find yourself bored, either it would be water sports, dance lessons or evening shows. What is more the island also has its own squash courts, tennis courts and a fitness center. Moreover you can take some excursions from the hotel such as Dolphin Safari, Morning Fishing, Night Fishing, Deep Sea Fishing, Half day and full day Island hopping, Photo flight by seaplane, Submarine excursion, Photo flight by Seaplane, Visit Male’(capital) Trip and others. The evening feeding of sharks and manta rays is an attraction worth seeing. Every night at 18.30 near the Faraumati Restaurant you can see shark feeding. You may also be able to feed stingray fish near the Athiri Bar. It happens every evening at 20.30
