The main house reef is pretty far away from the shore. Dhangethi is close to whale shark point and manta points where you can easy snorkeling.

The only beach is situated in front of Kandooma Resort but it’s prohibited to bath in bikini there. The beach itself is very clean and well-maintained as well as the island. On the opposite side of the island you will find several places to watch the sunset.
This island is conned by a footbridge with Guraidhoo. On the island you can sunbath in bikini but the entrance to the water is rather uncomfortable because of the dead corrals. The house reef is rather far from the island so they organize pretty cheap snorkeling trips to reach it.
A lot of resorts are opened for day visit from Guraidhoo as well
Highlights: Hanifaru Bay, easy to go, long beach, scuba diving
Dharavandhoo Island is located in Baa Atoll 110 km north of Male. The best way to reach this island is by domestic flight. There are 5 flights per day. The island itself is divided into two parts: a domestic airport and a village. The village occupies almost the half of the island.
The beach area is pretty long and you can find sun loungers, swings, and several hammocks. This part of the island is cleaned every day. House reef stretches over the whole beach line. The water is crystal-clear and the visibility is 30-40 meters!
There is marine reserve Hanifaru Bay – extremely famous place because of a huge amount of mantas you can see here from Apr till Nov – around 100-200 rays!
A few nearby resorts are opened for day visit as well.
Highlights: house reef, picnic island, scuba diving, manta points, whale shark excursion, child friendly.
Omadhoo is located in South Ari Atoll and that is about 70 kilometers far from the capital Male. About 800 people live on Omadhoo but this shouldn’t bother you at all like on many other islands in Maldives it’s not busy here. There is a small bikini beach area, but soon it will be expanded. And it’s clean and nice.
The main house reef is located to the south if the island and the length is around 300 m. The most exciting spectacle awaits you at the very edges of the house reef as well as on the most other islands. On the whole this reef is 80-90% alive so you can see very much of everything. Also there’re several manta points near Omadhoo and you can take activity snorkeling with whale sharks.
South Ari Atoll is the most popular diving area in Maldives.
There is amazing picnic island rather close to Omadhoo. This is quite a large island on the scale of all the uninhabited islands in Maldives. It takes 20-25 minutes on a speedboat to get to the island from Omadhoo.
Rasdhoo Island is one of the most popular destinations among diving and snorkeling amateurs. The island is located in Alif Alif Atoll 56 kilometers west from Male. It’s about 500 m in length and approximately 600 meters in width. The population of Rasdhoo nowaday is 1500 people.
There are stunning uninhabited islands nearby. You can travel to the neighbouring islands either for the half of the day, or for the whole day with barbeque or without it. Read more about these islands in the post Madivaru and Madivaru Finolhu.
Rasdhoo is known for its house reef. It’s located a stone’s throw away from the shore.
The atoll is really famous for its dive points. These places are considered to be the best in Maldives. The underwater world is really worth exploring. Diving schools offer to take an instruction and to dive together with an instructor.
The greatest advantage of Rasdhoo is the availability of diving points for beginners. Even plunging for only 8 meters you can see the beauty of this wonderful Atoll! So do not be afraid then you will have something to remember.
Bikini beach is rather small comparing to some other islands, but it’s nice and there is a shadow as well under the trees.
5 caffes are opened daily and offer different cousins of local and western food.
Highlights: beach, fruit farm, large island, child friendly.
Thoddoo Island is located 67 km west of Male, It’s about 2 km in length and 1 km in width. One-third of the area is agricultural, another third is the village itself, and the rest of the island is empty. The island’s population is about 1,400 people.
A tourist beach is located in the western part of the island. It’ll take you 15 minutes to get there. You will go through the plantations of various fruits. Such a nice view.
The beach is very clean and well-maintained. Its size is a bit more than 100 meters. There are several hammocks under trees for you to have a rest. It’s clear that their number is limited. The water is very clean, and there is no floating litter.
You can find 4 local caffee on the island.
Thoddoo house reef is rather big and extended, but it located rather far away from the beach area.
Thoddoo is one of a few islands in Maldives that exports fruit and vegetables to other islands. There grow papayas, watermelons, bananas, coconuts, etc. If you want to pick fruit from a tree, you’d better get permission from the locals.
Highlights: beach, house reef, scuba diving, not a crowdy place, child friendly.
Thinadhoo is one of five inhabited islands in Vaavu Atoll. Located at about 78 km to the south of Male. The island itself is divided into two parts. One part is occupied by village with population of 120 islanders only.
Despite its rather moderate size Thinadhoo can boast one of the best bikini beaches on Maldives. The beach is really adorable – there are almost no dead corrals on beachside where you enter the ocean. The house reef surrounding the island is gorgeous which makes Thinadhoo one of the prettiest places on Maldives.
You can easily find a shade under the palms and relax on one of sunbed. Thick vegetation creates plenty of private and enclosed places where you can sneak away and enjoy your privacy.
Besides the beach and the house reef you may discover the neighboring picnic island and several sandbanks where you can make a barbecue or simply spend a day far from civilization.
There are only 2 island caffees on Thinadhoo.
Highlights of Ukulhas: beach, house reef, fishing, great transfer connection with Male.
Ukulhas is an island located in Alif Alif Atoll. The island is 72 km away from Male – the capital of Maldives. The length of the island is 1025 m, the width is 225 meters. In the northwest you can find a beautiful lagoon with sandy beach and turquoise waters.
There is a long bikini beach area with a lot of sun loungers and sunshades that are available for you. Ukulhas has one of the longest beach among local islands in Maldives.
However during the rain period (usually it’s May-November), as far as I now, the situation changes. Lots of wastes, high waves, muddy water. The reason for it lies in changing of wind direction: during the rain period it blows from the west; the beach is also located on the western side of the island.
There, as well as on other local islands, you can find practically no wastes. Locals try to serve natural environment.
There is quite long reef in a front of bikini beach full of corals, fishes, turtles, sometimes even sharks.
